How much is insurance for PADI diving courses?

For the 5 day course or the day and a half course? I'm going in the Red Sea in Israel. For an adult and a 16 year old.

To add a little detail to MovieBuff's excellent answer, if you're going to Israel from Europe, the website you want for DAN insurance is http://www.daneurope.org/web/guest/membership. The DAN Sport Bronze (basic) insurance is €59, Sport Silver is €85 per person per 12 months of cover, but the Family Sport packages (covers up to 4 divers) may be better value for you: €88 for Bronze level, €136 for Silver.

If you are taking out travel insurance, SCUBA diving (and other 'adventurous' sports) are usually not covered, since general insurers regard SCUBA as 'high-risk'--but you may be able to get it included by paying an extra premium. Travel insurance SCUBA cover may be cheaper than DAN, but may not cover as many possible costs, and usually only lasts for about 3 months, maximum.

(NB In terms of accident probability, diving isn't really 'high-risk'--but in the rare event of an accident, total costs for evacuation/ recompression/ medical expenses can quite easily run to 5- or even 6-figure amounts, thus 'high-risk' for the insurance company).

Finally, one of the marks of a truly professional instructor is that they voluntarily hold professional liability insurance, even when not actually required to do so by local legislation (it is required for instructors working in the UK, but not in e.g. Egypt--I don't know about Israel). Don't be afraid to ask, and to request a different instructor (or go to a different dive center) if you feel uncomfortable with the instructor who is assigned to teach you.
