hi i am doing my open waters diving course for my upcoming holiday to australia.do you need a knife licence?
if i do how can i get one (i like in england)
As far as I know , in the UK the rule is still that if you have a good reason to possess a large knife (such as a dive knife), you don't need any kind of license, so long as you're using/carrying it only for its intended purpose. It only becomes illegal if you e.g. strap it to your leg for a night out on the town.
As far as flying goes, you won't need a knife for your Open Water course--the instructor will be with you at all times, and he (and the divemaster if there is one) should be carrying cutting implements on the dives.
NB Stainless steel kitchen shears or a purpose-built net cutter work better than knives on monofilament lines/nets anyway
