Price for Scuba Diving in the Grat Barrier Reef?

I'm going to Australia from Canada this december and i would like to know the prices for Scuba diving to go see the great barrier reef. An estimate would be fine, I just want to know so I can prepare. Also, would I need to have taken swimming classes or other things? please inform me because I have never done it before.

Thank you.

Wow - The Great Barrier Reef just won a worldwide tourism award 2 days ago - you are in for a treat.

There is SO many options mate ... where to start.
First of all because you didn't say, I will assume you are flying into Cairns and going out from there. http://www.welcometocairns.com.au

There is snorkelling out the reef, glass bottom boats for the non-swimmers and diving. Obviously the snorkelling is easy and no classes needed. Dive classes, there is a lot to choose from

If you walk around town here there is SO many options and specials daily - so I would suggest wait until you get here and grab the best deal.
