Red Sea Sharm El Sheikh

Exploring Egypt's Red Sea and Sharm El Sheikh

The gorgeous Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh can provide you with ample water sport activities during your next Egyptian holiday. Located on the tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Sharm el Sheikh enjoys some of the most glorious and enticing water attractions in the world. Because it can be so overwhelming to a first time visitor to the seaside resort town, we are going to provide you with a quick and easy guide of all the various water sport you can enjoy at Sharm el Sheikh.
Because the Red Sea is one of the most ecologically diverse seas in the world, the abundance of life you will see when scuba diving along the famous Sharm el Sheikh reefs will amaze you. Scores of dive shops are ready and waiting to teach you the basics of scuba diving, give you the pre-dive practice you needs, and transport you to their favourite diving spots. With their expert care you can expect to see exotic species of fsih, sharks, octopi, and many other marine denizens. Tours are usually all-day affairs with the dive lasting for quite some time, though you will have so much fun, it will seem like mere minutes have gone by.
Another water sport which is available to you is snorkeling. Less intensive but just as stunning, your skimming along the surface of the water will reveal the untold treasures of Sharm el Sheikh's famous reefs. Snorkeling supplies are easily packed, or if you forgot to bring your own, the dive shops and hotels have some to rent for your enjoyment of the Red Sea's bounty.
Ocean fishing excursions are also available to the deep-sea angler in you. Chartered all day or half day boats leave regularly and often fill up quickly during peak season. Expert fishing advice is always proffered by the captain and his crew, but equipment will normally have to be rented from him or his company prior to departure. Quite a few visiting anglers have landed a huge Albacore during their time out at sea.
The coast of the Red Sea is known for its strong winds, making windsurfing an attractive sport for many visitors on holiday to Sharm el Sheikh. Again, equipment is easily found at shops along the coast and during peak season, the waters can become crowded. A few kilometers from Sharm el Sheikh lies Dahab, the "gold" city, whose windsurfing is amongst the best in the world.
Finally, cliff diving from the sandstone projections along the Sinai coast are a favourite pastime for many tourists to Sharm el Sheikh. The only precaution is to be sure to scout out the best spots ahead of time or be willing to move on if they look crowded. Again, Dahab offers even more opportunity as the famous "blue hole" and other deep fissures dot the coastline of Sharm el Sheikh's neighbor.
This article on Egypt holidays to Sharm el Sheikh is written by Phil Redgrave; a travel journalist who writes for a number of websites and travel blogs, including On The Beach - his job involves cruising down the Nile, diving and fishing in Egypt and then writing about it... He may just have the best job ever.
