Is it a bad idea to visit Cairns in February?
I want to go learn to dive, do some dives on the Great Barrier Reef, and then do an overnight tree up to the Daintree rainforest. Unfortunately, February (next week) is the only time when I can spare a week - honestly, how bad is the weather at this time of year? Will it be raining heavily much of the time, do the boat trips get cancelled as a result and are the waters unswimmable?
If you have been following the weather report up north such places like Ingham,Tensile and I assume that therefore parts of Cairns would also be flooded.February is the wet season up north and this year these poor people have copped the floods and bad weather in a bad way.I would say that if you want to save the hassle of going up there then don't go at this time.Probably the diving would not work out either because the of the rain the visibility would be really poor.Due to the amount of rain another thing that you also need to look out for is dengue fever.Plus don't forget that February is still box jelly fish season as well.
