Have you thought about Hurghada?
it's pretty much along the same lines as Sharm and
you can get to do a bit of site seeing from there a
day trip to Cairo and easy to get to Luxor as well.
About Taba looks nice on paper but.......
my friend went there just before the troubles she
said it's like a ghost town with not much to do
her and her hubby spent the whole trip on
the hotel complex.
Anyway have a good trip and enjoy yourself
where ever you choose to go
and "Hate warmongers" is right Dahab is great too!
