Located about 814 km from the city of Bangkok, Krabi is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the South of Thailand. Also ranked in the top ten scuba diving destinations in the world, Krabi has crystal clear waters and breathe taking white sands, such as Ao Nang and Hat Rai Le. Explore the prosperous marine environment with over 30 diving sites in the area. Amazing underwater caves and colourful sea life will provide hours of entertainment. Scuba diving in Krabi will enable you to witness diverse and rare species of the marine life consisting of more than 150 species of fish and 50 species of coral.
One of the main reasons Krabi is considered as one of the best places in the world to scuba dive is because many of the sites are shallow, making them suitable for divers at any stage from beginner to expert. If you are completely new to the diving world, there are many PADI-certified diving schools in the region that offer courses including in pool training, video presentations and lectures, boat transportation to and from the sites and all the necessary equipment. For the more accomplished diver, there are excellent options to benefit from including underwater tours accompanied by a local guide!
GK Island is an option popular among those who prefer to dive amid rocks covered with beautiful unique soft corals and welcome the thought of sea snakes! With two shallow swim throughs, Koh Talu is also a brilliant choice for sea life admirers, with its brittlestars, fusiliers and sea whips among large barracuda and mantis shrimps. If you want to witness the beauty of lion fish, clown fish, parrot fish and plenty of red saddleback anemone fish then head to Koh Yawasam, a diverse and beautiful diving spot offering areas of flat sand as well as large areas of shallow corals.
Koh Si is perhaps the finest of all diving areas in Ao Nang. Blessed with two large plateaus coated in shallow corals, the surrounding area is filled with fascinating caves and tunnels. Some of the spectacular sea life you can expect to see include snappers, sea horses, scorpion fish, and nudibranchs.
Occasionally the black tip reef sharks can also be spotted here. Koh Dor is yet another diving area near by rich in sea whips, sea fans and both hard and soft corals. Above all, Koh Yawabon holds the distinction of being the diving area with the longest swim-through. The best season to dive in Krabi is November through to April, although it can still be enjoyed all year round.
