Snorkeling In Bali

Is there anywhere in Thailand I can swim with wild dolphins? ?

(Not captured dolphins please.)

I've been dolphin watching in Lovina, north Bali, on local catamarans but we weren't allowed in the water. We were about 1- 2 km from the shore.

I have an Open Water licence but prefer snorkelling.

You can go dolphin wataching in the open sea not far from Bangkok. The place is called Bang Pakong. Basically, its a little bit south-east of Bangkok. This is a good time of the year to go. I think the season ends in mid-February; about Valentines day. I didn't see people getting into the water with the dolphins but I did see people going out by themselves in kayaks; although most tourists went armed with cameras on fishing boats. What the kayakers did when they got to the area where the dolphins are I don't know; maybe they went for a swim. It was quite a way from shore to the area where the dolpins were - maybe a couple of miles or more. It might be a bit dangerous to be swimming in the water there as there are commercial fishing boats that move with some speed in that area.
